Heart attack patients treated with statins within 24 hours of the attack were 54% less likely to die than those not given the drugs.

Reason: Statins increase the release of nitric oxide, which reduces heart damage.

If you are diagnosed as having a heart attack: Ask your physician about starting a statin immediately.
