Relief for Knee Osteoarthritis
Recently, researchers performed magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) scans of the knee joints of 265 people with osteoarthritis of the knee to determine cartilage loss over a 30-month period. They also measured the strength of the patients' quadriceps (upper thigh) muscles.
Result: Patients who had stronger quadriceps had less cartilage loss behind the kneecap.
Theory: Strong quadriceps may help prevent excessive wear and tear on knee cartilage.
If you have knee osteoarthritis: Ask your doctor about quadricep exercises.
