Wash the affected area with soap and water, not peroxide—which slows healing by preventing new cells from forming. Put a protective film, such as Aquaphor or petroleum jelly, over the wound—keeping the area moist speeds healing. Instead of an adhesive bandage, use an Adaptic bandage—its plastic coating prevents gauze from sticking to the wound. Or try a liquid bandage, which seals the cut like a scab for faster healing.
