Cancer Vaccine
New cervical cancer vaccine will save many women's lives. The vaccine Gardasil protects against sexually transmitted human papillomavirus (HPV), which is responsible for 70% of cervical cancer cases. Gardasil, which is given in three doses over a six-month period, also helps prevent most types of genital warts. The vaccine is recommended for girls and young women ages 12 through 26.
Important: Vaccinated individuals should still have regular Pap tests to check for cervical cell changes caused by HPV.
