Better Colon Cancer Screening
The fecal occult blood test (FOBT) derects I blood in feces and often is used as a preliminary screening test for colon cancer.
However: False-positive results can result from eating red meat or such vegetables as radishes, turnips, beets or broccoli, Aspirin and other nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs), such as ibuprofen (Advil), also may cause a false-positive result. A diet high in vitamin C can cause false negatives.
Self-defense: Avoid these foods and medications within three days of the FOBT.
